1. Use the Spa or Gym Showers
They’re bigger, cleaner, and less steamy than your cabin’s shower — and totally fair game. Treat yourself to that VIP rinse.
2. DIY Laundry Hack: Detergent Sponges
Soak a sponge in detergent, pack it in a Ziploc, and boom — you’ve got a travel-sized laundry kit. You can also take laundry detergent sheets. Scrub socks and swimsuits right in the sink.
3. Hidden Power Behind the TV
Many cruise cabins have a secret USB port or outlet behind the TV. It’s not on every ship, but definitely worth a look for that precious extra charge spot.
4. Hair Flat Iron = Sneaky Clothing Iron
Since real irons are banned (fire hazard!), bring a hair flat iron. You can press collars, hems, and wrinkles right in your cabin. Genius!
5. Ask Guest Services for Extras Early
Need a robe, fan, mattress topper, or extra hangers? Ask on day one — supplies are limited and first-come, first-served.
6. Use Forward & Aft Elevators
Midship elevators = packed. Forward & aft ones? Often empty. Get there faster, sweat less. You’re welcome.
7. Bring a Pop-Up Laundry Basket
Or an IKEA bag. Keeps your dirty clothes off the floor and doubles as a beach bag or luggage extender. Bonus: folds flat!
8. Battery-Powered Motion Light
Cabins can be pitch black at night. Use a small LED motion light so you can find the bathroom without blinding everyone or stubbing your toe. 👉 Rechargeable Battery Powered Nightlight
9. Use an Old Sea Pass, Hotel Key Card or Gift Card in the Power Slot
Many cabins need your card in the wall slot to keep power on. Use a spare card so your air conditioning and devices stay charging while you’re gone.
10. Bluetooth Trackers: Luggage + Cabin
AirTags or Tiles in your bags (and even hidden in your cabin!) help you find them fast. Bonus: put one on your kid’s wrist in a waterproof band — peace of mind on sea days. 👉 Apple Airtags
11. BONUS: Protect Yourself from USB Port Hacking (Juice Jacking)
Public USB charging ports — like the ones in airports or cruise terminals — can be risky. Hackers can install hidden malware that sneaks in while you charge. It’s called juice jacking, and while rare, it’s easy to avoid.
Use a USB data blocker — it allows power but blocks any data transfer. We travel with these 👉 USB Data Blocker on Amazon.
Even smarter? Always use your own charger and power block and avoid sketchy ports when you can. But if you have to plug in somewhere public, plug in safe.
